Drupal 5.0 released

Today, 8 months after the Drupal 4.7 release, we released Drupal 5.0 to the world. Drupal 4.0 was released in 2002 so it took us a few year to feel confident to increase the major version number from 4 to 5. Needless to say, Drupal 5 is our most exciting release to date. Read more about Drupal 5.0 in the official release announcement or just look at the "what is new in Drupal 5.0?" screencast (13 Mb, 10 min, mp4) that we prepared. Rock on, Drupal community!

Stephen:

Thanks for all the hard work Dries. Drupal 5.0 has been working great for me so far in my current development. Each version really does get better and better.

Koksal Cengiz:

Funny, I had installed the RC2 just yesterday. I wish I had waited one more day, but it is OK. It is worth to re-install 5.0 because it has really nice features.

Thanks to everyone contributing to it.

Rick Hood@drupal.org:

Dries, thank you and everyone for all your work on this - the number of hours you have put in on this project must be staggering - it is a real a gift to all of us.

I have been web developing since 1999 (second career) with ASP/VBScript. I started looking into open source, PHP & Drupal about a year ago, creating some pro-bono sites for practice during that time. As of today (version 5.0), and as a result of what I just learned last week at the Lullabot workshops (http://www.lullabot.com/training), I will be building all my sites in Drupal.

I am now "addicted" to Drupal and I am looking forward to becoming good enough using it that I can contribute sometime back some day.
