9lives using Drupal

Belgium's biggest gaming site, 9lives (formerly known as games.telenet.be) relaunched using Drupal. They have 275,000 users and serve 500,000 page views a day. For their forums, they still use vBulletin though.

Nice!

As for vBulletin -- I do not blame them. Although I love Drupal it just lacks certain features dedicated forum software can provide. Drupal could improve a lot in that area but the question remains whether that would be a good thing(tm) -- trying to be too much of everything generally doesn't work very well.

Lacking features? Please sum them up. I am pretty sure we can compose a list of modules that solves every single "lacking feature". Really, in Drupal its not the Forum module solving all your forum demands, its separate dedicated modules.

It's a very good site. I bet a lot of why they went w/ vb is because they've been using it from the start and didn't want to move everything over or upset their users. Seems like a good move to me.

Chris:

Drupal's forum are lacking but improving. We migrated from vBulletin to Drupal for a more integrated approach. There's no doubt that vBulletin was better, much better. But to have it fully integrated with our site going forward was very important, and the shortfall in features was worth it.

I anticipate that the forums in Drupal will improve significantly as time goes on.

One last thing. It's worth pointing out that Drupal's forums are much more easily customised that editing vBulletin templates, which are a headache at best.
